Week 8: Scripts, Designs, and Revisions (Makiyah Harris)

Writing

My first order of business this week was to finish writing our Prologue/Act 1. The script for this portion of the story ended up being far longer than I anticipated, topping out at 24 pages. As a result, I decided to reevaluate the overall scope of the project’s narrative. Originally, I planned for the game to tell a complete, self-contained story in five acts; however, with my revised goal, I will only be writing up until the end of the second act for our final demo. In addition, I also updated our narrative macro sheet with most of Act 2’s plot points.

After Andrew finished implementing Act 1’s script in Twine, I tested it out, noting and patching a few minor bugs. Now, the next step is to get some feedback on the existing narrative from playtesters.

Art and Assets

I also began Miren’s redesign this week. So far, I’ve only made tweaks to her face and hair, but I feel like this design already suits her updated personality better. Overall, I wanted to make the character’s features a bit sharper while still keeping the general look of the original sketch.

In addition, our team began constructing an asset list containing all of the art, UI, sound, and music that we will need to produce or find during our next sprints. For Miren and other characters like the Bandit, I noted the different expression sprites I will need to make. I also added some backgrounds and UI elements to the spreadsheet.
